First Shoot

When we first started this exam, I had it in my head that I would do happiness and sadness. I wanted to do these two topics because they are able to show raw emotions, they contrast each other. However, when I shot these in my practice shoots, I found that it wasn't all that interesting. Instead, from the ten shoots that I did, I really enjoyed Hope. I liked the way I could bring culture into the picture, experiment between humans and objects. The exam paper, under mood and atmosphere, tells us to look at lighting, setting and props. I think that in hope I can use those three very well. I think lighting throughout should be either dark with one ray of light, or very light and colorfully emphasis's the faith.

These are three photographs that I really like and would like to use for inspiration.

Sometimes.... it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But for Mark, it was the easiest thing to find. He held his hand out towards the rusty door handle and swung it open with full force. Glasses clanged and people cheered about. It was New Years 1975. He'd gone back in time.-JHR: Image result for dandelion

The First photo is a light shining through a key hole. I like the idea of this. The reason  I like it is because of the message it gives out. The door and handle look old, dark, rusty. Yet there is still light shining through. I think it gives the message out of that no matter what you look like, who you are, where you are, the situation you are in; there will be light at the end. There's always room for a little bit of light. I like the way you can see the shadowing of the door handle and the way the sole focus is the door.

The second Image isn't so much a photograph, more something that would have just been done on word and screenshot. However, I like the culture of the word. It means hope and I have an idea of photographing someone writing it down in a journal of some sort. I think I would like the
photograph to be yellow in colour with a vignette around it.

Lastly the third photo is a dandelion. I would like to photograph some sort of flower to represent hope. In the same way as the key hole - alone but there is still a chance of survival. I am not keen on the way this dandelion is photographed, I would like to use mine a little more zoomed out and have a dark background.
I think these three Images show mood and atmosphere very well; through the lighting and objects. I am excited to experiment using these as inspirations.

Second Shoot

For my second shoot I would like to contrast Hope, and go with a theme of giving up. All the photos would be in black and white, With dark surroundings and negative space.
these three photos are ones that I would like to use as inspiration.

The first one I would like to edit the eye in the same way, but without the hands in the middle. I like the way it is kind of saying how each little personal characteristic is fading away. The demons inside are winning and the person is becoming possessed. There's no hope left.

The second photo is of a woman holding her hands to her face with a cigarette. I like this photograph because of the way she hasn't completely given up yet but is on her way to giving up. It it very realistic and demonstrates what a high percentage of people now days feel.

Finally, the third photograph is my favourite. I like the way the black can represent the bad things, voices, self harm, demons, depression, its slowly crawling up the persons arms. It is like  visual representation of depression taking over, and the person losing hope. It's like their blood going cold.

I like the use of black and white and the sinister feel of the piece.: #raven queen: DOCUMENTARY: Bad Trouble over the Weekend- Dorothea Lange, 1964. Her ring and cigarette, the creases around her eyes, and the title.:
